Kephart Funeral for C.M. Kephart, 79, Lawton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Alley, pastor, and the Rev. Charles Bagget, pastor, Immanuel Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Kephart died Monday, April 21, 2003, at his home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born March 9, 1924, in Lawton, to Charles and Ethel Suggs Kephart. He grew up in the Lawton area, and attended Bishop School. He worked for Thompson Plumbing from 1939 to 1943 when he was drafted into the Army. He received the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He married Betty Brandon on March 24, 1946, in Vallejo, Calif. They returned to Lawton around 1950. He owned and operated Kephart Plumbing and Mechanical for more than 50 years. He retired in 2000. He coached little league baseball, boys' prep league baseball and women's church league softball for more than 35 years. He was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church for 50 years. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharla and Jim Bruce, Lawton; two sons and daughters-in-law: Blake and Mary Kephart and Brent and Barbara Kephart, all of Lawton; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Gaylon and Charlene Kephart, LeRoy and Rita Kephart and Hank and Barbara Kephart, all of California; a sister, Jerry Colins, California; seven grandchildren: Jessie Bruce and his wife, Christine; Jason Hunt and his wife, Denise; Allegra Kephart; Brandon Kephart; Kristie Kephart; and Kyle Kephart; a great- grandchild, Payton Bruce; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Paul, Delwood and Earl; and a sister, Verl Patterson. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 715 SW H, Lawton, 73501.
