Kauley Funeral for Reuben E. Kauley, 69, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mission Village Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel Avritt and the Rev. Ron Bartoli, pastor, Memorial Indian Baptist Church, officiating. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Kauley died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at a local hospital. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery. He was born May 25, 1934, in Lawton to Arthur and Beulah Satoe Kauley. He grew up near Rainy Mountain in Mountain View and attended Mountain View Public Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 2, 1953, and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired July 31, 1973, as a master sergeant. He received an Army Commendation Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Korea Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star, three Overseas Bars, six Service Stripes, Republic of Vietnam National Commendation Medal with 60 device and 14 Good Conduct Medals. He attended Bacone College at Muskogee. He received his bachelor's degree from Cameron University and a master's degree from Southwestern State University. He was a teacher and a counselor at Elgin Public School and Fort Sill Indian School. He also worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Anadarko until his retirement in 1999. He was a direct descendant of Indian captive Millie Durgan Goombi. He was also a descendant of Troop L 7th U.S. Calvary Indian Soldiers. He was an ordained minister and associate pastor and deacon at Mission Village Baptist Church. He married Mildred Maxine Ross on Oct. 7, 1953, in Salina, Okla. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Lee and Carolyn Kauley, Norman; three daughters and sons-in-law: Suzanne and Reece Whitlock, Anadarko; Becky and Keith Kraetzer, Norman; and Candy and Alvin Morgan, Allenhurst, Ga.; an aunt, Marjorie Tahbone, Anadarko; six grandchildren: Carrie Perez, Ritchie Kauley, Jasmine Devaughan, Jeremy Whitlock, Jeff Kraetzer and Nicholas Kraetzer; two great-grandchildren: Jiscella Devaughan and Haylei Devaughan.
