All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Duncan Banner 23 Jan 2003 Margaret Laura Brooks Lawrence MARLOW — Margaret Laura Brooks Lawrence, 90, of Duncan died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in Duncan Regional Hospital. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.R. Earls and the Rev. John Dyer officiating. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home. Margaret was born July 24, 1912, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Henry and Hattie Harris Durland. She married Byrl Brooks on Aug. 21, 1929, in Lawton. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1947. She married Gilbert H. Lawrence on Sept. 14, 1957, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1995. Mrs. Lawrence lived in Fletcher most of her life. Also, she was a former Lawton resident. Since 1968, she lived in Marlow at Clear Creek Lake. She worked at Fort Sill in the housekeeping department for six years. She was a former teacher. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and reading. Mrs. Lawrence was a member of Oklahoma Home and Community Educators, helped organize Hope FCE, was a lifetime member of the Marlow VFW Auxiliary and was a member of the Cootie’s. She was a member of Hope Community Church. Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, James and Bernadine Brooks of Port Townsend, Wash., Frank Gene and Joanne Brooks of Marlow, Henry and Louise Brooks of Rochester, Wash., and Tommy Brooks of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Corene Markham of Olympia, Wash.; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Terrell of Locust Grove; a sister, Helen Nicholls of Norman; a step son, James Lawrence and his wife, Norma, of Watertown, N.Y.; four step grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren. Bearers will be Mike Waggoner, Steven Brooks, Mike Brooks, Christopher Brooks, Bill Brooks and Jack Anderson. Honorary bearers are Carl Gibbs, Sonny Terrel, Raymond Beck and Raymond Smith.
