McCoy ARDMORE - Funeral for former Lawton resident Thomas C. McCoy, Ardmore, is pending with Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Mr. McCoy died Monday, April 7, 2003, at an Ardmore hospital. ========= Lawton Constitution 9 Apr 2003 Thomas C. McCoy Funeral for retired Sgt. 1st Class Thomas C. McCoy, 90, Lawton, will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Lawton Heights Church of the Nazarene, Lawton, with the Rev. Bill Bowles, pastor, and the Rev. Winston Wilson officiating. Mr. McCoy died Monday, April 7, 2003, at an Ardmore hospital. Burial will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. He was born July 2, 1912, in Haworth to Thomas Pierce and Jennie Baird McCoy. He grew up and attended school there. He joined the Army on Dec. 1, 1937, in Oklahoma City, and served in World War II and the Korean War. He received the European/African/Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal with clasp and three loops, American Defense and National Defense Medals, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal of Japan, Army Occupation Medal of Austria, Korean Service Medal with five service stars, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Campaign Medal and the Expert Carbine and Expert Pistol Medal. He retired from the military on Oct. 31, 1960, and was self-employed as a carpenter. He was also a custodian at Sheridan Road School for many years. He married Clara Mae Johnson in December 1937 in Idabel. He was a member of the Comanche County Retired Educators Association, and the Lawton Heights Church of The Nazarene. Survivors include four sons: Donald Wayne McCoy, Ronnie Howard McCoy and Gary Michael McCoy, all of Lawton; and Thomas C. McCoy and his wife, Jan, Oklahoma City; three brothers: Pierce McCoy, Duncan; Pete McCoy and his wife, Rose, Boca Raton, Fla.; and James McCoy, Yukon; three grandchildren: Joshua Lytle, Jordan Lytle and Julye Herndon. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Emma Jones and Estelle Farley. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Nazarene University, c/o J.M.
