All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 1 Jan 2005 Ester Henry Miles Funeral for retired Sgt. 1st Class Ester Henry Miles, 77, Lawton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Post Chapel, Fort Sill. First Sgt. Miles died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at a Lawton care center. Burial with military honors will be at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, under direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Hoffman, to David and Rosa Ford Miles. He married Margaret Emmie Miles on May 18, 1954, in Werhiem, Germany. He served in the Army from 1945 to 1972 and received the following commendations: the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal (7th Award). He survived the Korean and Vietnam conflicts offensive Phase IV, V, VI and TET 69. Upon retiring in 1972 with 27 years of active service, he moved to Lawton and was a member of New Post Chapel for more than 30 years. He owned and operated J & M Seafood and a small electrical business. Visitation will start Sunday at Becker Funeral Home and will run until the day of the service. A reception will follow the committal service at the cemetery at the Fort Sill Officer's Club, 500 Upton Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Sergeant Miles died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at McMahon- Tomlinson Nursing Center, Lawton, Oklahoma. Burial with full military honors will be in the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. He was born on January 3, 1927 in Hoffman, Oklahoma to David and Rosa (Ford) Miles. He met his late wife, Margaret Emmie Miles, while serving in the U.S. Army in Gelsenkischen, Germany. They were married on May 18, 1954 in Werhiem, Germany and were married for 41 years. Ester served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1972. He received numerous medals including the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal (7th Award). He survived the Korean and Vietnam conflicts offensive Phase IV, V, VI and TET 69. He owned and operated J & M Seafood and a small electrical business. He was also particularly fond of fishing and carpentry. He exhibited his trademark of courage when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Ester’s generous and gentle nature, as well as his courage, will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His smile and laughter will be missed.
