'Bill' McCain Funeral for retired Lt. Col. Williston Bill McCain, 67, Lawton, will be at 3 p.m. today at New Post Chapel. Lt. Col. McCain died Monday, June 27, 2005. Burial will be at Fort Sill Post Cemetery under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 8, 1938, at Fort Sill to Joseph and Bertha McCain. He grew up in Lawton and attended Whittier Grade School, Claremore and San Marcus Military academies. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1956, where he received a wrestling scholarship to the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 1959, he joined the U.S. Army at officer candidate school at Fort Sill. His military career included three tours of Vietnam, Joint General Staff College, Monterey Language College and commanding a battalion at Fort Hunter Leggit. He received numerous medals including two Bronze Stars, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Order of Military Merit in Hun, Republic of Vietnam Forces Honor Medal First Class, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross With Palm and Parachutist Badge. He retired from active service in 1978. He returned to Palm Circle, Fort Shafter, Hawaii, in 1983 as an exercise specialist for the Cobra Gold training in Thailand until his second retirement in 2004. Survivors include his wife, Victoria San Nicholas, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Palmer and Chere McCain, California; and Matthew and Jackie McCain, Missouri; a daughter and son-in-law: Michelle Misty and Joe Whittle, California; four stepchildren: Howard Egger, Oklahoma; Sandie Mamiya, Texas; Roger Egger and Francis Brown, both of Hawaii; a sister, Helen Pudge Banks, Lawton; 19 grandchildren; an aunt, Maurine Canepa, South Carolina; nine nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
