William B. Carlin, II, Rector, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Mrs. Means died Monday in a Lawton hospital. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker Funeral Home. She was born June 16, 1920 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada to John and Louise (Butler) Coveyduck. She graduated from the St. Peter’s School in St. John’s. She began her career as a fashion consultant in exclusive ladies boutiques in Newfoundland and Bullack Wilshire, North Hollywood, California. She was later employed at Bon Marsche in Seattle and Peggy’s Fashions, the Clothes Cottage and Grace’s in Lawton. She married CW4 William John Means on March 9, 1943 at the U.S. Army Post Chapel, Fort Pepperell, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. He died January 8, 1990. Mrs. Means was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and was a member of the Altar Guild of the church for many years. She was past President of the Church Women United and the Women of St. Andrew’s. She was also Past Matron of Charity Chapter #507, Order of the Eastern Star, past Royal matron of Lawton Court #36, AMARANTH, past Worthy High Priestess, Lawton Shrine #24, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Past Noble Grand, Rebekah Lodge of Lawton, past President of American Legion Auxiliary Post #29, and past President of the Lawton Garden Council. She was also a longtime member of the Friends of the Library, The Lawton Women’s Forum and the Pansy Garden Club. Mrs. Means was a Red Cross Volunteer in the OB-GYN Clinic at Reynolds Army Hospital for 42 years and since 1992 she has been a volunteer at Southwestern Hospital in Lawton. She is survived by numerous Family and Friends in Canada.
