All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 22 Dec 2002 Monetathci Sr., Edgar Funeral for Edgar Monetathci Sr., 84, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Comanche Nation Complex, north of Lawton, with the Rev. Nick Tahchaw- Wickah officiating. Mr. Monetathci died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at his home. Burial will be at Mt. Scott Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. today at the Comanche Nation Complex, north of Lawton. He was born June 18, 1918 to A.A. and Martha Wahper Monetathchi. He married Alice Faye Hummingbird. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He retired from the Oklahoma Employment Commission after serving as a claims representative for 30 years. He served on Comanche Tribal Committees and spoke before the U.S. Congress on behalf of the Lawton Indian Hospital. He served two terms as president of the American Indian Exposition. He established Comanche language classes and organized the Comanche Indian Veterans Association. He was a member of the Comanche Native American Church, the Mt. Scott United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of the Comanche Homecoming. Survivors include four daughters: Verna Mason, Tucson, Ariz.; Bessie "Penny" Beaver and Karen Monetathchi, Lawton; and Cheryl Lewis, Oklahoma City; four sons: Jeffery Monetathchi, Oklahoma City; Harvey Monetathchi, El Reno; Sean Monetathchi, Lawton; and Eric Monetathchi, Elgin; 38 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
