Manuel Funeral for retired First Sgt. John W. Manuel, 60, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jack Darnell, pastor, First Church of God, Anderson Affiliation, officiating. Mr. Manuel died Friday, May 23, 2003, in a local hospital. Burial with military honors will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. He was born Jan. 28, 1943, in Ville Platte, La., to Maurice and Irene Manuel. He married Linda McGuire on May 7, 1966, in Lawton. He retired from the U.S. Army on Jan. 1, 1985, after more than 27 years of service. He had worked as transportation manager for The Lawton Constitution for 10 years. He was a member of First Church of God, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: John Paul and Shasta Manuel, Bixby, and Chad Manuel and fiancée, Ronda, all of Lawton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Jerry Hulsey, Springdale, Ark.; three brothers: Burkman Manuel, Norfolk, Va.; James Manuel, Ville Platte, La.; and Larry Manuel, Mamou, La.; two sisters: Gloria Paret, Mineral Wells, Texas, and Diana Fontenot, Ville Platte, La.; and five grandchildren: Tyler Hulsey, Brett Hulsey, Tanner Hulsey, Hannah Jay and Austin Wunner; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
