Mrs. Maurek died Sunday, March 13, 2005, in Lawton. ======== Lawton Constitution 7 April 2005 Mary Joan 'Jo' Maurek Funeral for Jo Maurek, 70, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church with Herman Lawrence, deacon, officiating. Mrs. Maurek died Sunday, March 13, 2005. Arrangements are by Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. She was born Jan. 10, 1035, in Clinton, Iowa, to Robert Earl and Mary Pauline Amey Houser. She married retired Lt. Col. Peter Atley Maurek in 1954 in Clinton. They traveled during an Army career. She was a homemaker and maintained an Oklahoma real estate brokers license. She completed her bachelor of arts degree from Cameron University with distinction and honors, including Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges, meritorious service award by Phi Kappa Phi and Entre Nous English Award. She was a member of the honor society Phi Kappa Phi. In 1977-1979, she was a test examiner at Cameron University. In 1981, she began a career with the civil service department at Fort Sill. This included BSEP II counselor assistant. She later became a guidance counselor and educational services specialist, also receiving numerous accomplishment awards for civilian service by the Department of the U.S. Army. After retiring from civil service, she volunteered at the Center for Creative Living in Lawton. Survivors include two sons: Greg Maurek, Lawton; and Pete Maurek, Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters: Marta Moore, Norman; and Heidi Maurek, Austin, Texas; four grandchildren: Regan, Blayde, Kathleen and Kirsten; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gary and Carol Maurek, Kristen and Patrick Quinn, June Houser, Carol and Dan Kelly; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
