John Denton Martindale, 85, Lawton, is pending with Becker Funeral Home. Mr. Martindale died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003. ========= Lawton Constitution 30 Nov 2003 John Denton Martindale GERONIMO — Funeral for retired Staff Sgt. John Denton Martindale, 85, Geronimo, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tony Elkins officiating. Sgt. Martindale died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003. Burial will be at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill. He was born Feb. 1, 1918, in Cowlington. He was raised in Tishomingo and as a young man worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp helping build Lake Murray. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, and he retired from the Army after more than 21 years of service. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Campaign Stars and the Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp and three loops. He had served on the Marshall Islands when the atomic bomb was tested. He was a member of VFW Post No. 1193. He married Leora V. Long on Nov. 27, 1946, in Oklahoma City. She died Jan. 28, 1986. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Scot Zumwalt, Oklahoma City; a son, John D. Martindale Jr.; two grandchildren: John D. Martindale III and Joseph Martindale; extended family members: Vivian and Wesley Snow and their children and the Bennett family; and his many friends at Copper Lake Retirement Village, Edmond.
