Nevaquaya, 60, Lawton, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Fort Sill Indian School Gym with the Rev. Charles Spencer officiating. A prayer service will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Comanche Nation Funeral Home. Mr. Nevaquaya died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at a local hospital. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. He was born Nov. 14, 1942, to Malcolm and Margaret Tarsee Nevaquaya. He married Charlene Johnson on April 1, 1963, in Quanah, Texas. He attended Fort Sill Indian School for 12 years before going to Bacone Junior College in Muskogee. He received a bachelor of science degree in art education from Cameron University, and a master’s degree from Central State University. He was an art teacher at Tomlinson Junior High for 20 years. He was head of the Tomlinson Brush and Palette, and showed sculpture, pencil drawings and other media arts. He won the Grand Award at the Indian Exposition in Anadarko. He was a representative for Title IV and Title IX Indian Education for 20 years. He was a member of the Comanche Nation and a member of the Oklahoma Education Association. He was also a member of the Comanche Reform Church in Lawton. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Ralph Nevaquaya, Lawton; two daughters: Mary Nevaquaya, Lawton; and Cheryl Nevaquaya, Lawrence, Kan.; a brother, Kenneth Nevaquaya, Wichita, Kan.; and a sister, Delores White, St. Charles, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Nevaquaya.
