Pennanen Funeral for Sgt. Ross A. Pennanen, 36, Fort Sill, will be at 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, with the Rev. Ron Ham, Shawnee, officiating. Sgt. Pennanen was killed in action Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003. He was aboard a CH47 Chinook Helicopter when it was shot down en route to Baghdad. Burial with military honors will be at Resthaven Garden of Serenity, Oklahoma City. He was born Nov. 28, 1966, in Tulsa. He graduated from McLoud High School in 1985. He entered the Army in 2001. He deployed April 12, 2003, with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Artillery, from Fort Sill in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His military awards include BSM, Purple Heart, AAM, NDSM, ASR and Expert Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar.
