All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 27 Mar 2003 Johnny Parrish Funeral for Johnny Parrish, 89, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Wayne Ashlock, minister, officiating. Mr. Parrish died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at a local care center. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. He was born Sept. 5, 1913, near Apache to Feegee and Abigail Moore Parrish. He graduated from Anadarko High School. He received his BFA and MFA degrees in art from the University of Oklahoma. After attending pilot school at Randolph Field, Texas, he returned to OU and enrolled in the College of Education. He then taught school at Dover, Chickasha and Broxton. He later moved to Lawton and taught at Will Rogers School. He was principal of Roosevelt School and was the first principal of Edison School, where he remained for 16 years. He married Alwayne Moreau on Oct. 21, 1939, in Oklahoma City. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he was a deacon. He also served on the board and cabinet of the church. He was later an elder and was honored as elder emeritus. He was chairman of the advisory board of the Marie Detty Youth Services Center when it was built. He was a member and officer of the Sheridan Kiwanis Club and later a member and officer of the Golden K Club. He was also a member of the Cameron Campus Ministry. In 1996, he received the Cameron Campus Ministry All Saints’ Service Award. He was a life member of NEA and OEA. He served two years as state representative of elementary principals and attended conferences all over the United States. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons: Johnny Lee Parrish, Duncan; and Tom Parrish and his wife, Monica, Lawton; a brother, Walter Parrish, Owasso; three grandchildren: Eddie Parrish and his wife Tyran, Tulsa; Bill Parrish, Fort Worth, Texas; and Kimberly Arant and her husband Jason, Mesquite, Texas; three great-grandchildren: Courtney Parrish, and Whitney Parrish, both of Fort Worth; and Brayden Parrish, Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund, 701 SW D Ave., Lawton 73501.
