Lois Porter Lois was born on January 24, 1910 in Lawton, OK to O.F. and Sarah Emma Bare-the third of nine children. They later moved to Indiahoma, OK where she finished high school and then Cameron College in Lawton. She and her brother, J.D., taught at a two room school at Stoney Point, near Elgin and there she met her future husband, Grayson A. Porter. After their marriage on December 24, 1931, they moved to Oklahoma City and remained there. Grayson preceded her in death on September 8, 1979. Lois was always a busy person and a caretaker of those around her. She worked diligently in her church, St. Paul Methodist and then Asbury Methodist when the churches merged, and the members were her extended family. She held many offices in the UMW and committees in the churches. She lived independently until her stroke in June 2001-even drove herself to church that day, and had her vegetable garden already planted. After her children were grown she worked for Hightower's. This was a special time for her-she loved working there and loved the people she worked with. She continued to work to age 75 and still talked about special times there. She is survived by three children, Patsy Jean Morgan, Donna Sue and Virgil Young, and James R. and Janice Porter; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Porter in 1991 and a grandson, Richard Hilderbrand in 2002. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, June 23, 2003, at Asbury United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
