Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Petra Baptist Church, 6300 South Freeway, Fort Worth. Burial: Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Emerald Hills Funeral Home, Kennedale. Robert Paul Patterson, known as Bob, was born in Fort Sill, Okla., on July 23, 1943, to Harold and Opal Patterson. Bob moved to Fort Worth with his mom while his dad served in Europe during World War II. As a young teen-ager, Bob, along with his brother, Mike, helped their dad build a house in Kennedale. He graduated from Kennedale High School in 1961. In June 1962, during services at Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Bob asked Jesus to come into his heart. That was a decision that changed his life forever. In 1965, Bob was drafted into the army and served about a year in Vietnam. Upon his return, he met Evelyn Jackson at a mission's conference at Rolling Hills Baptist Church. Bob was in love and soon asked Evelyn to be his wife. They married Aug. 2, 1968. Their first child, Russell Paul, was born in the fall of 1969; and in 1971, he had his second child, Damara Marie. He moved to Crowley and lived there about three years. During this time, Bob attended North Texas Baptist College in Fort Worth. After graduation, Bob made his final preparations for his work as a missionary to southern Mexico. In January 1977, Bob and his family moved to Cuernavaca, Mexico, where he joined his brother, Mike, and worked. Nathan Don was born in 1978 and soon after Bob took his family and moved to Tlapa, Mexico, where he worked closely with Lyle McCoy, church planting in the remote mountains of the state of Guerrero. In 1980, God gave Bob and Evelyn a daughter, Andrea Faye. During the time spent in Tlapa, God was preparing Bob to start a new work. In 1987, Bob moved his family to Chilpancingo, Mexico. After about a year of working with a local pastor, Bob started Faith Baptist Church. Bob had a goal: to knock on every door in that city of about 250,000 people and leave a gospel tract with the plan of salvation on it as well as a book of John and Romans. At every opportunity, Bob would witness and tell the blessed story of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In 1998, God gave Bob and Evelyn another beautiful daughter, Sarah. Through the work Bob started, seeds were planted throughout the area. There are now churches and missions in and around Chilpancingo. On Jan. 20, 2005, Bob had an accident with a ladder sending him to the hospital. While in his most painful moments, you could hear him praying and quoting scripture verses. On Feb. 4, God called Bob Patterson home. We can confidently say that Bob is worshiping at the feet of his most precious Lord. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8 Survivors: His loving wife, Evelyn; mother, Opal Patterson of Fort Worth; brother, Mike and wife, Becky Patterson, of Cuernavaca, Mexico; daughter, Sarah Patterson of Chilpancingo, Mexico; daughter, Andrea Patterson and fiance, Nubun Sangjun, of Fort Worth; daughter, Damara and husband, James Poledna, of Fort Worth; son, Nathan and wife, Apolonia Patterson, of Chilpancingo, Mexico; son, Russell and wife, Mae Patterson, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Bethany, Tiffany, Shanda, Paul and Jared; and many nieces and nephews.
