All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Becker Funeral Home 10 Feb 2005 Betty Jo Roper Age 73, Lawton, Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday in the Lawton Heights Church of the Nazarene with Rev. D. Garrett Drake, Rev. Eddie Stark and Rodney Hively, officiating. Mrs. Roper died Thursday in Lawton. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. She was born east of Lawton on June 9, 1931 to J.J. and Laura Mixon. She grew up in Lawton, attended Lincoln Elementary School and was a 1950 graduate of Lawton High School where she was a football attendant her junior year and football queen her senior year. She married Ernest L. Roper on August 21, 1950 in Lawton. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2003. She had worked at the Comanche County Court House in the welfare department for a short time as well as having worked for Wichita National Life Insurance Company and helped her husband with his insurance business. She and her husband later owned and operated Roper's Hall of Frames for fifteen years. She was a member of the Lawton Heights Church of the Nazarene where she was a board member, had taught Sunday school, was a past NYI President, a member of the Missionary Society, a past Sunday school superintendent and directed numerous Vacation Bible Schools. Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Elaine and Dennis Drake, Lawton; three grandchildren and their spouses, Misti and Rodney Hively, Lawton, Lorri and Michael Long, Tuttle, Oklahoma, and Rev. Garrett and Crystal Drake, Raytown, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Chloe and Hannah Hively; three sisters, Juanita Justice, Mary Lou Boice and Julia Proctor, all of Lawton; a brother and sister in law, Cleo and Billie Mixon, Marlow; brothers and sisters in law, Ray and Loretha Roper, Sayre, Oklahoma, Danny Roper, Greenmeadow, Oklahoma, and Wanda Smith, Bethany, Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews and friends. Her brother, Alfred Mixon, brothers in law, Floyd Boice, Amon Justice, M.L. Proctor, Robert Smith and Cecil Anderson, and sisters in law, Lynda Roper and Lois Mixon, preceded her in death.
