"Rizz" Risley Age 78, Lawton - Services will be at 10:00 am Thursday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. SGM Risley died Monday in a local hospital. Burial with full military honors will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK. He was born September 17, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Arthur G. and Edith Ann (Rhoades) Risley. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, from 1943 until 1946. After his discharge he worked several jobs before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1948. He served with the 6251st Rescue Boat Unit, 20th Air Force, in Agana, Guam. After the Navy he worked as a commercial pilot in and around Idaho, before entering the U.S. Army in October of 1952. He served 2 Tour in Vietnam as well as tours in Germany and the United States. He was a member of the All Army Pistol Team in 1963, and was recognized with numerous awards and citations. In 1966 he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal as a Forward Observer in 7 major battles while serving in Vietnam. He retired from the Army on August 31, 1975 after a total combined service time of 26 years, 6 months and 25 days. He married Walburga Stewart on March 17, 1975 in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1976, he was selected the first Vice President of the Oklahoma Numismatic Association, and was instrumental in developing the Association. He was President of the Oklahoma Numismatic Association from 1977 to 1979 and was Life Member #3. He was Editor of the Oklahoma Numismatic Association Journal from 1976 to 1981, and he received the Numismatic Ambassador Award from Krause Publications in 1978. He was also a Life Member of the Comanche County Coin Club. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, he served as the Coach of the Oklahoma Pistol Team, and coached the team to the National Championships. Survivors include his wife of the home. A son, Patrick and a Daughter Helen. Sister In-Law: Evelyn Risley and a Nephew Mike Risley, both of Oregon. He was preceded in death by Parents and a Brother-Charles.
