Don Middleton, retired minister, Assembly of God, officiating. Mr. Spires died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at a local hospital. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. He was born July 7, 1933, in Douglas, Ga., to Warren and Georgeanna Bailey Spires. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954, and then served in the Air Force Reserves until 1959. He later owned Roscoe Spires Insurance Agency in Lawton for many years before retiring in 1982. He was a Mason and attended Southside Assembly of God. He married Toni Lavern Bass in Lawton. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Freddie and Sheila Bass, and Randy and Kelley Bass, all of Lawton; two daughters and sons-in-law: Shirley and Patrick Shugert and Vickie and Lennis Nichols, all of Lawton; three brothers: Tillman Spires, Georgia; J.L. Spires, Florida; and Sage Spires, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
