Swofford Age 47, Lawton, will be at 10:00 am Tuesday at Post Cemtery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Mr. Swofford died Sunday in a Lawton hospital. Burial with Full Military Honors will be under the direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born December 27, 1957 in Lampasas, Texas to Herschel and Mary (Keep) Swofford. He graduated from MacArthur High School in 1976, and entered the U.S. Army in 1979. He served in Germany, Fort Knox, Kentucky where he was a Drill Sergeant, Fort Irwin, California, where he served in Security Management, and as an ROTC Instructor at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. In 1991 he served with the 2-66 Armor, based out of Garlstadt, Germany in Operation Desert Storm. In the Gulf War he earned the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal for his duty performance. He retired from the Army in 1999, and was currently employed with GEO at the Lawton Correctional Facility, as the Head Training Officer. He married Julie Japp on November 3, 1984 in Lawton. He was a member of Carriage Hills Christian Church. Survivors Include: His wife Julie and their 2 Children, Jack Herschel and Brandi Linn all of the home. Mother: Mary Swofford of Tuttle, OK, Sister and Brother In-Law: Darla and Ron Brinker of Lawton, and a Brother and Sister In-Law: John and Gena Swofford of Shawnee, OK. Also survived by numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by: Father, Son-John Daniel, 2 Brothers: Bill and Mike.
