Stevenson Funeral for Elmer J.D. Stevenson, 60, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Landis Odum, pastor, officiating. Mr. Stevenson died Monday, March 24, 2003, in Duncan. Burial with military honors will be at Jehovah Cemetery, Milo, under direction of Jefferson Funeral Home Inc. He was born Jan. 20, 1943, in Milo to Zebedee and Francis Stevenson. He came to Lawton in 1944 from Milo. He attended Dunbar Elementary, Central Junior High and Lawton High School. He married Linda Stevenson in 1961, and she later died. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church where he worked with the Star Light Band and New Zion Choir. He later attended Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He entered the Army in 1961 and served until 1971, earning the rank of staff sergeant. He served two tours in Vietnam, and received several honors including the Army Service Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal, the Bronze Star, the Army Captain Accommodation Medal and the Purple Heart. He enlisted in the Navy in 1973 and achieved the rank of petty officer second class. He retired in 1979. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law: Diane and Robert Myers, Chatum, Va.; Donna Renat Stevenson and special friend, Nathaniel Gradney Jr., Lawton; and Yolanda Delores and Rod Birdine Sr., El Paso, Texas; three sisters and a brother-in-law: Myrtle and Charles Alberty, Mary Rockmore and Patricia Dickerson, all of Lawton; two brothers: Henry Stevenson, Fort Worth, Texas; and Herbert Stevenson, Irvin, Texas; three aunts: Angie Lee Mayfield and Miriam Thompson, both of Lawton; and May Doris Johnson; two uncles: the Rev. Kenneth Johnson, Fayetteville, N.C.; and Lee Ray Butler, Lawton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
