Silvey Jr. ELGIN - Funeral for retired Sgt. 1st Class Clarence B. Silvey Jr., 69, Elgin, was Saturday at Elgin Church of Christ with the Rev. Kenneth E. Hayes, Baptist minister, officiating. Sgt. Silvey died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Fort Sill. Burial with military honors was at Letitia Cemetery under direction of Robbins Funeral Home, Fletcher. He was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Washington, D.C. He grew up in the Washington, D.C., and Maryland area. He worked on yachts before being drafted into the Army. He married Wanda R. Rath on Sept. 15, 1959, at Fort Sill. He was a Vietnam veteran, and his awards include the National Defense Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Good Conduct Medal sixth award, the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm. He retired from the Army on Aug. 31, 1975, at Fort Carson, Colo. He then worked for civil service in the janitorial department of Fort Carson and Fort Sill, retiring in 1995. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron R. and Judy Silvey, Greeley, Colo. a daughter and son-in-law, Larr A. and John Gabor, Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Shirley Rackey, Maryland; four grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and a great-great-grandson.
