Salazar Funeral for Alfredo N. Salazar, 83, Lawton is pending with Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Mr. Salazar died Monday, July 4, 2005, in Lawton. ========= Lawton Constitution 5 Jul 2005 Alfredo N. Salazar Funeral for retired 1st Sgt. Alfredo N. Salazar, 83, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lighthouse Church of God, 800 Rogers Lane, with the Rev. Delbert Hughes, pastor, officiating. Sgt. Salazar died Monday, July 4, 2005, at his home. Burial with military honors will be at Veterans Court of Freedom at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. He was born Sept. 25, 1921, in San Diego to A.N. Sr. and Helen Chavez Salazar. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in World War II, Vietnam and the Korean War. During World War II, he performed duty with the 125th Combat Engineers, 14th Armored Division in both Europe and the Pacific Theaters. During the Korean War, he had combat duty with the 24th Infantry Division and later returned to Korea for occupation duty. During the Vietnam War, he was with the 7th Infantry Division. Ribbons, decorations and medals he received include the American Campaign Medal, European- African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan and Germany), Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal with Silver Clasp and Three Loops, (8th Award). After retiring from the military in 1965, he began working in civil service in 1966 at Fort Sill as a recreation and sports assistant supervisor specialist, until retiring in 1984. During the renovation of Goldner Gym at Fort Sill, the basketball courts were named in his honor and are known as the "Alfredo N. Salazar Basketball Courts." He married Essie K. Boucherie in Wichita Falls, Texas, on May 30, 1975. She died Dec. 14, 2002. Survivors include a granddaughter, Essie K. Salazar, of the home; a grandson, Christopher Puetz, of the home; four daughters: Jane Nichols and Brenda Puetz, both of Lawton; Doris Morton, Redford, Mo.; and Sharon Smith, Mabelvale, Ark.; a brother, Samuel Salazar, La Mesa, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and an extended family member, Elaine Keir, Lawton.
