A rosary was held Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 7:00 PM at the church with Deacon Bill Adamson officiating. Mr. Schulte died Sunday, November 7, 2004 in a Lawton hospital. Burial was in the Sterling Catholic Cemetery under direction of Hodge Funeral Home, Fletcher. He was born September 23, 1916 to John and Clara Schulte and was raised and resided in rural Sterling. He married Mildred Kurtenbach May 30, 1945 in Oklahoma City, OK. Clarence raised his family and helped raise his sister Gertrude's family for she was widowed at an early age. He farmed much of his life, supplementing that income working as a carpenter and also as a civil service employee. He was one of the carpenters that built the Sterling Catholic School. He always enjoyed raising a large garden that he shared with his neighbors, enjoyed fishing and a good game of dominoes. Later in life, after retiring, his wife Mildred had health problems that required almost constant care until his own health failed. Even after she was placed in a nursing home he made daily trips to aid in her care for a number of years. He believed in hard work and made an effort to ensure this was passed on to each of his children. He instilled in each a strong sense of right and wrong. Health problems caused him to endure a great deal of pain in his last years, but he always maintained his wit and sense of humor. Clarence was not one to complain, when asked how he was doing, his standard response was "I'm alright". Within the last week he was seen smiling and lifting his hands upward from his bed as if he saw something pleasant and was reaching toward heaven, a few minutes later he quietly asked if he was dead. He is survived by 2 sons; Robert Clarence Schulte and his wife, Phyllis of Lawton, Joseph Schulte and his wife, Dina of Sterling, 2 daughters; Marie Ann Schulte of Lawton and Mary Cecilia Schulte of Pauls Valley, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Marjorie Arlene Schulte at birth as 1of triplets, 3 sisters; Gertrude Bratzler, Lena Kurtenbach and Lillian Demer, 3 brothers; Tony, Edward and Julius Schulte. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Comanche County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/comanche/comanche.html
