All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 1 Dec 2002 Smith, Winnie Lee Funeral for Winnie Lee Smith, 96, Lawton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, Elk City, with the Rev. Jack Atkinson officiating. Mrs. Smith died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery. She was born Aug. 3, 1906, in Magazine, Ark., to Elisha M. and Emma Green Wann. She moved to the Merritt community southwest of Elk City with her family in October 1924. She married Roe L. Smith on May 23, 1926. During his career as a school administrator, they lived in Granite, Elk City, Sayre and Childress, Texas. At each of these communities, she was active in the Presbyterian Church as a piano player. She was also a member of the choirs and a Sunday school teacher. While living in Childress, she owned and operated the Jack and Jill Kindergarten. She was also involved in many community activities, including garden clubs and managing and delivering Meals on Wheels until her mid-80s. After her husband's death in March 1978, she moved to Garland, Texas, where she lived until July 1998, when she moved to Lawton. Survivors include a daughter, Myrtie Herrin, Allen, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Lois Smith, Lawton; two granddaughters: Caren and her husband Mark Wilson, Prosper, Texas; Lora Jo and her husband David Aubrey, Lawton; four grandsons: Jeb Smith, Lewisville, Texas; Daniel Smith, Norman; Cal Caylor, Lucas, Texas; Brett Smith and his wife, Janette, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 15 great-grandchildren: Jared Aubrey, Renee Aubrey and Chase Aubrey, all of Lawton; Zach Wilson, Cody Wilson, Blake Wilson, Tommy Wilson and Rachael Wilson, all of Prosper; Lauren Tullis, Joplin, Mo.; Christina Caylor, Port Richie, Fla.; Jacob Smith, Broken Arrow; Matthew Smith, Norman; and Justin Smith, Amanda Smith and Ashley Smith, all of Colorado Springs.
