Smith 1918-1989 Hattie M. Smith was born on January 18, 1918 in Clarksville Texas. She grew up in Red River County in Texas. She attended school in the Greenwood District. Hattie accepted Christ at age 13. She married John Henry Smith on October 5, 1934 in Clarksville, Texas and to this union two sons and two daughters were born. The family then moved to Lawton, Oklahoma in 1944. She and her family united with Union Baptist Church, but later moved their membership to St. John's Baptist Church formed by Rev. T.O. Mitchell. She remained a member until her death. She was active in the Silver Circle Missionary Group. She was a past WMU President, past Church Clerk, past Choir President and past Sunday School Teacher. Hattie departed this life on December 11, 1989. She leaves to mourn her passing: one daughter, Minnie Bowen of Lawton, Oklahoma; one son, Howard Smith of Fayetteville, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; one nephew, Jim Henderson of Stockton, California; one son- in-law, Howard Curry of Los Angeles, California, one daughter-in-law, Sharon Smith; and a host of relatives and friends. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Comanche County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/comanche/comanche.html
