Sammons Age 69, Lawton, Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Jeff Robinett, officiating. Sgt. Sammons died Sunday in Lawton. Burial with full military honors will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was born January 4, 1936 in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Jesse Lee and Bertha Ann Sammons. He moved to Lawton as a young boy and attended Lawton schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of both Korea and Vietnam. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal Seventh Award, Two Overseas Bars, Driver Mechanics Badge-T, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal – Germany, Bronze Star Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm. He retired from the Army at Fort Sill on August 31, 1975. He married Bettie Avery on December 6, 1957 at Fort Sill. Following his retirement from the Army he worked for Dan Delluomo Nissan for 20 years as a parts manager and later owned and operated Pizza-N-Stuff in Duncan. He had also attended Cameron University. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter and son in law, Katherine and Bernd Ingram, Lansing, Kansas; four sons and daughters in Law, Michael and Martha Sammons, Odessa, Texas, Stephen Sammons and David Sammons, both of Duncan, and Mark and Bridget Sammons, Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Janice Stott, Lawton, and Karen Hatchett, Elgin; two brothers, Gary Sammons, Lawton and Keith Powell, Shawnee, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Lauren, Collin, Ashley, Michael and Brittany. His parents and a brother, Russell Powell, preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest, Oklahoma, P.O.
