All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Crawford FH--Northridge CA Schmit, Robin Yarmuk Beloved wife and mother of three, died peacefully at home in Chatsworth, CA, Monday June 4, 2007. She was 82. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Joseph W. Schmit. Peka Robin Yarmuk Schmit was born March 16, 1925 in Lawton, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of the late Nathan Yarmuk and LaVeta Nance Yarmuk. Robin graduated valedictorian and a member of Phi Theta Kappa from Cameron College in Lawton, OK in 1944, then received her BS in chemistry from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK in 1947. In February 1949, she moved to Los Angeles to attend graduate school in chemistry, with a minor in photography and classes in harp, at the University of Southern California, 1949-1950. While at USC, Robin met Joe Schmit, and they married August 26, 1951. After time away from her career for family, Robin received her secondary teaching credential from San Fernando Valley State College (now CSUN); she taught chemistry at Cleveland High School in Reseda, CA from 1960- 1991. Robin was a lifelong music lover and an accomplished piano, organ, harp, and harpsichord player and enjoyed singing. She also enjoyed photography, sewing and needlework, winning numerous awards for her efforts. In 1973 she became actively involved in genealogy research and was a member of the Southern California Genealogy Society where she once served as treasurer. Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Diane Schmit, of Hanover, Maryland, and two sons, Michael, his wife Phyllis and daughter Stephanie, of Cupertino, CA, and Richard of Fontana, CA. Robin was preceded in death by a sister, Nathalee Yarmuk Bergman. She is survived by two brothers, Louis Yarmuk and his wife Marie, of Lawton, OK and James Nance Yarmuk , and his wife Vallene of Hugo, Oklahoma, and one sister, W. Joan Yarmuk Power of Lawton, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held Monday, June 11, from 5-8 p.m., with vigil and rosary at 7 p.m., at Crawford Mortuary, 8717 Tampa Ave., Northridge, CA 91324. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at St. John Eudes, 9901 Mason Ave., Chatsworth, CA 91311.
