All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sunset Memorial Garden--Lawton OK Schoonover, Ida Ida Schoonover, 85, a homemaker, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at a local hospital. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Grapevine Church of Christ, 525 Park Blvd. Mr. Lyle Asbill will officiate. Graveside service: 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Sunset Memorial Garden, 8900 NW Cache Rd., Lawton, Okla. Visitation: Ida will lie in state Wednesday afternoon at Lucas Grapevine Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials: The family respectfully invites those desiring, to send growing plants for her funeral service as these will be taken to Grapevine Senior Activities Center, where Ida volunteered for several years. Also, anyone desiring may make a memorial contribution in Ida's honor to Grace Place, a homeless shelter, P.O. Box 214 Nocona, Texas 76255. Ida was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Fort Cobb, Okla., to John J. and Eva Giles Brewster. She was an accomplished seamstress. She was a founding member of the Freedom Riders Motorcycle Club. Ida was a 43- year breast cancer survivor and she participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. She logged hundreds of miles in the Walk Across Texas Program. She was a very independent person, living in her apartment and taking care of her own affairs. Ida was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Schoonover. Survivors: Daughters, Beulah Cadle and husband, Carl, Gayle Weaver and husband, James, Judy Hamm and husband, Allen; sons, Jim and Don Schoonover; sisters, Alice Steinhaus, Nora Ledbetter; brothers, June and George Brewster; grandchildren, Joe, Carole, Cory, Melissa, Sharon, Renee and James III; and great-grandchildren, Troy, Travis, Brooke, Zoe, Sydney, Shyanna and Sera, and James.
