All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== :Mount Scott Kiowa Cemetery--Lawton OK Lawton Constitution 3 Apr 2003 Juanita Howlingcrane Onco Tahah Funeral for Juanita Howlingcrane Onco Tahah, 75, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wilfred Niedo, the Rev. Margaret Battiest, the Rev. Richard Rosenbaum and the Rev. Jim Knowles officiating. A prayer service will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Mrs. Tahah died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 in Lawton. Burial will be at Mount Scott Kiowa Cemetery, north of Lawton. She was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Thomas, to Jeanette and James Howlingcrane Sr. Her mother, Jeanette Riggs Howlingcrane, was the daughter of Stacy LoneWolf Riggs, grandson of Black Kettle, and survivor of the Sand Creek Massacre. She grew up in Thomas, and graduated from Thomas High School. She attended Oklahoma City University, and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation, she worked at the Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She married Curtis G. Onco in 1948. He later died. She later married Ralph Tahah in Lawton on March 27, 1972. She was a registered nurse and a supervisor at Hobart General Hospital, Clinton Regional Hospital, and Lawton Public Health Indian Hospital as an Operating Room Supervisor for 28 ¢ years. She retired in November 1990. She was a member of the Episcopalian Church. Survivors include her husband of the home; four daughters: Sharon Komacheet, Lawton; Pamela Lunceford, Richmond, Va; Terri Mack McClung, Dallas; and Anita "Penny" L. Mack White, Prague; four sons: Michael L. Onco Sr. and Curtis Onco Jr., both of New Mexico; Mitchell G. Onco Sr., Ada; and Michael L. Onco Jr., Florida; three sisters: Letha Wahnee, Dallas; Juanita Heap of Birds, Weatherford; and Mary Belle Lone Bear, Clinton; a brother, Alfred Heap of Birds, Clinton; 24 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
