Tally LAWTON — Retired Sgt. 1st Class Ernest L. Tally, 69, of Marlow died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in Duncan. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Lawton with Chaplain Tommy Howell officiating, of the Disabled American Veterans in Duncan. Burial will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin with full military honors. Sgt. Tally was born on April 30, 1932, in Pershing to Thomas Edward and Lillian Pauline Maness Tally. He grew up in Ponca City and attended school there. He married Mary Cavett on May 29, 1953, in Ponca City. He enlisted in the 45th Infantry Division in 1948, serving in the Korean War. He had two tours of duty in Vietnam and the Berlin Crisis. Sgt. Tally received several awards, include the Bronze Star, with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Combat Infantryman Badge with one Star; and the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired on Aug. 31, 1973. Following retirement from the U.S. Army, he worked for Civil Service as a boat repair mechanic and assistant manager at Letra. He also work for Non- Appropriated Funds as a pin setter machine mechanic. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #49, a life member of the VFW Post #1192, a life member of the American Legion and a member of the Military Order of the Cooties. He was a bowler and an avid fisherman, he was a member of the Lawton Bass Club and a Life Member of Bass Masters. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; two sons and daughters-in- law, Lee Tally and his wife, Kathy. of Duncan, Jeff Tally and his wife, Susan, of Lawton; a daughter, Markanne Tally Rouse of Lawton; six brothers, William Tally of Turley, Robert Tally of Tulsa, and Johnny Tally and Robert Carter, both of Little Rock, Ark., Tommy Tally of North Little Rock, Ark., Donald Tally of Edmond; a sister, Isabelle Kersey of Little Rock; six grandchildren, Chera Tally Simpson, Serena Tally, Brandon Rouse, Jason Tally, Christopher Tally and Anthony Hackworth; a great-grandson, Jay Jay Simpson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Tally.
