All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 24 Apr 2003 Opal Jean Sims Turner Funeral for Opal Jean Sims Turner, 64, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, Lawton, with Tyrone E. Turner Sr. and Perry Clay, pastors, officiating. Mrs. Turner died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at a local hospital. Burial will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, under direction of Howard- Harris Funeral Services, Lawton. She was born Nov. 14, 1938, in Bryan, Texas, to the Rev. Eugene Sr. and Velma Sims. She grew up in Bryan, and graduated from E.A. Kemp High School. She married Rogers Turner Sr. on Aug. 18, 1957, and they moved to Lawton in September 1957. From 1959 to 1962 she traveled with her husband to various military assignments including Germany, Fort Campbell, Ky., and Fort Hood, Texas. She was a homemaker for many years, and worked for Lawton Public Schools Headstart for 10 years. She earned an associate degree in elementary education from Cameron University. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church for 20 years. She joined St. John's Missionary Baptist Church in 1983, and served with Mission Circle No. 6, and was director of the church library. Survivors include her husband, of the home; four sons and daughters-in- law: Rogers Jr. and Sherri Turner, Tulsa; the Rev. Michael and Gail Turner and the Rev. Tyrone Sr. and Beverly Turner, all of Lawton; and Kevin and Michelle Turner, Houston; her mother, Phoenix; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Jackie and Onamay Sims, College Station, Texas; Eugene and Wrenetta Sims, San Diego; and James Sims, Phoenix; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Joe and Ralph Love, Debra and Alford Comer and Linda Sims, all of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; many nephews and nieces; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Billy Ray Sims.
