'Tony' Velazquez Funeral for Staff Sgt. Paul A. "Tony" Velazquez, 29, Fort Sill, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Robert Smith, youth pastor, Madill First Baptist Church, officiating. Staff Sgt. Valazquez was killed in action Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, in Iraq. He was aboard a CH47 when it was shot down while en route to Baghdad. Burial with military honors will be at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill. He was born July 24, 1974, in Paris, Tenn., to John David and Mary Elizabeth Velazquez. He grew up in San Diego, and graduated from Mira Mesa High school in 1992. He married Mary Hoff on March 11, 1994, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He entered the Army in 1992, and his first duty station was Fort Sill with the 5th Battalion, 18th Field Artillery. He was reassigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Field Artillery, on Oct. 17, 2002. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on April 12, 2003. His awards include BSM, Purple Heart, AAM (7), GCM (3), NDSM (2), HSM, ASR, OSR, Driver and Mechanic Badge, and the Expert Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar, JMUA, USCG, MUC, USCG OPRS RIB. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three children: Kirstie, David and Brianna Velazquez, all of the home; his parents, San Diego; a brother, Daniel Allen Velazquez, San Diego; two sisters: Carmen Suzanne Huffman, San Diego; and Adriana Calise Velazquez; Tallahassee, Fla.; his maternal grandmother, Ava Sue Wooldridge, Buchanan, Tenn.; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph Y. and Janie Virginia Hoff, Lawton.
