All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sunset Memorial Gardens--Lawton OK Lawton Constitution 08 Jun 2003 Dan Stephen Wiseman Funeral for Dan Stephen Wiseman, 62, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Frankye Johnson, pastor, officiating. Mr. Wiseman died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at his home. Burial with military honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 19, 1941, in Lawton, to Ruby and Dillard Wiseman. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1959. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and a master's degree from Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison. He married Sally Beth Bassel on Sept. 4, 1961, in Lawton. He was a teacher from 1964 until 1993. He taught history and government at Eisenhower High School. He enjoyed taking students to Washington, D.C., and to the Model United Nations at the University of Oklahoma on several occasions. He was the recipient of the distinguished Teacher of the Year Award. He served as state treasurer for the Classroom Teachers Association of Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958 until 1992 where he held the rank of command sergeant major. He helped establish a new training battalion in Wichita Falls, Texas, the 95th Division, 5th Battalion, 89th Regiment, 402nd Brigade. He received the Army Commendation Medal in 1987. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, OEA and PEAL of Lawton. He was also a member of the Optimist Club, serving in several offices. He was nominated as outstanding young man of the year by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Oklahoma. He served in the Redemption Church prison ministry since 2000, where he taught life skills. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and daughters-in- law: Todd and Brenda Wiseman, and James and Kelly Wiseman; two grandchildren: Brendan and Roxanne; a brother, Bob Wiseman and wife Maurine; mother-in-law, Marguerite Bassel, all of Lawton; a brother- in-law, James Bassel, Claremont, Calif.; and two sisters-in-law: Susan Heiligman, Palm Desert, Calif., and Patricia Bassel, Weisbaden, Germany. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Aimee Elizabeth Wiseman, his parents, and his father-in-law, Russell Bassel.
