All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 5 Jul 2005 James Alton Wheeler CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. -- Word has been received of the death of James Alton Wheeler, 55, Cripple Creek, Colo. Funeral will be at a later date in Crockett, Texas. Mr. Wheeler died Sunday, July 3, 2005, in Lawton. Local arrangements are by Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. He was born June 13, 1950, in Crockett, Texas, to James Albert and Clara Faye Linder Wheeler. He grew up in Crockett and Houston and joined the U.S. Army in 1974, serving four years. After the Army, he lived in Colorado Springs for many years before moving to Cripple Creek, where he lived for the next 25 years. He was a CDL truck driver and an artist. He married Ada Hale on Feb. 20, 1967, in Houston. He later married Vickie Matthews. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his mother, Gotebo; a son, Daniel Jacob McNamara, St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Sheila Marie Benthall, Panama City, Fla.; a brother, George Leon Wheeler, Houston, Texas; five sisters; Texia Fay Clark, Rayville, La.; Mary Jane Hayes, Linda Darlene Wheeler, and Sarah Joyce Rubar, all of Gotebo; and Georgie Lee Wheeler, Lawton; four grandchildren: Brytani Nikhol Mayfield, Justice Deon Benthall, Kenneth Austin Critchfield and Samuel James McNamara; an aunt, Lounette Kozlek, Houston; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, R.D.
