Young Funeral for Helen R. Young, 92, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel Hutchinson Jr. officiating. Mrs. Young died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at a local care center. Burial will be at Sunset Gardens under direction of Jefferson Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Kerns, Texas, to Lizzie Elliot and Albert Holmes. She came to Lawton in 1951. She married Joseph Young in 1955. He later died. She was employed in food service at Fort Sill’s Snow Hall. In 1972, she was employed by Goodwill Industries until her retirement. She was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as president of the mission, of the church, and of the choir; she served as mother of the church and was a member of the Deaconess Board. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Helen McNeal and James, Lawton; a granddaughter, LaTorria Williams, Lawton; a grandson, LeMarqus Williams, Norfolk, Va.; an aunt, Pearl Woods, Dallas, Texas; a sister-in- law, Lillie Holmes, Oklahoma City; four nieces, and two nephews.
