Black WALTERS — Lawrance A. Black, 82, of Duncan died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Duncan. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel in Walters, with Dr. James Brock officiating. Burial will be in the Walters cemetery. Mr. Black was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Walters to Dee and Besse Wood Black. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. For 10 years he was either stationed, or in battle, in North Africa, Italy and other areas. After his discharge he returned to Walters. He kept close contact with surviving members of the 46th Air Service Squadron, 12th Air Force, and attended their annual reunions. Mr. Black was the manager of concrete plantsIN Walters and Duncan and retired from Stokes Transit Mix after 25 years of service. Survivors include two sons, Steve Black of Erie, Colo., and Bob Philpott of Jenks; a daughter, Rita Thacker of Duncan; two sisters, Helen Thurman and Lois Adams, both of Walters; six grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 37 years, Gwen Burnaugh Black; a son, Bill Black; and two brothers, Dee and William Black.
