Amarillo Globe News 2 Jan 1998 Andrew Maurice Bunch Andrew Maurice "Smokey" Bunch, 79, of Canyon, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in LaGrone Funeral Chapel at Roswell, N.M. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle, and LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Mr. Bunch was born in Walters, Okla., and lived in Roswell for many years before moving to Canyon two years ago. He had served as a fire chief at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell and also had been a deputy sheriff and brand inspector for Chaves County, N.M. He was a past president of the Chaves County Sheriff's Posse and Pecos Valley Horsemen. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Marine Corps in Okinawa from 1944 until 1945. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War post in Roswell. Mr. Bunch married Dortha Gleghorn in 1946 at Artesia, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sue Britten of Canyon and Kay Hauer of Albuquerque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Diabetes Foundation, P.O. Box 50433, Amarillo, Texas 79159.
