"Jim" Brown, 84, McAlester, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Foy Conrad, former pastor, officiating. Mr. Brown died Monday, May 17, 2004, at his home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. He was born July 21, 1919, in Apeatone to William Payton and Caroline Richardson Brown. He was raised in Chattanooga and graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1938. He married Wilma Marie Gray on Dec. 23, 1939, in Walters. They lived in Lawton and worked in wholesale groceries until serving in the Navy in World War II. He began working for Arkla Gas Company in Lawton in 1950, and worked in Lawton, Chickasha and Altus. He retired after 34 years as a district foreman. They retired to Bugtussle, where they have lived for the past 20 years. He was a charter member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, which he helped build. He built two of his own houses in Lawton. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, James William and Anne Brown , Glendale, R.I.; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Joe Clemons, McAlester; seven grandchildren: Jay Truly, Anadarko; Brandi Pratt, Kennett, Mo.; Jeri Truly, Apple Valley, Calif.; Paul Brown, Covington, R.I.; and Shelly Martel, Leah Brown and Amy Brown, all of Glendale; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. ======== Lawton Constitution 21 May 2004 Jim Brown MCALESTER Funeral for former Lawton resident James I.
