All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Fairview Cemetery--Randlett OK Rush Springs Gazette 31 Aug 2000 Thomas James Estes Former Rush Springs resident Thomas James Estes, 80, died August 27, 2000 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 31, in Fairview Cemetery, Randlett, Okla. Mr. Estes was born to Perry and Ida Lee Estes on march 12, 1920 at Royal Okla. He grew up in Rush Springs where he graduated from high school. He attended College (now Cameron University) in Lawton for two years where he played in the college band and was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard. In September 1940, the National Guard was mobilized and in 1941, he was sent to U.S. Officers' Candidate School in Anniston, Alabama as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served in military government during late World War II and the Korean War achieving the rank of Captain. Tom and Jewel Pfeifer were married in January, 1944. A son, Phillip Steven and a daughter Phyllis Andrae were born to their union. Mr. Estes attended Central State College (now Central State University) here he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education. He established a career in business finance. After retiring from Citibank in New York, he founded his own company in Dallas, Texas. He retired in 1982 and in 1997 he and his wife moved to Rolling Meadows in Wichita Falls. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was very active in Rotary Club where he achieved the Paul Harris Fellow Award. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, his sone Phillips and wife Carol of Kansas City; his daughter Phyllis and her husband Colle Davis of Los Angeles, California; grandson Drew Estes of Kansas City, grandson Jessie Estes of Lawrence, Kan, granddaughter, Nicole Estes of Kansas CIty; and granddaughter, Deana Marie Brennan of Kansas City; one niece Terry Estes Cox of Burkburnett. He is also survived by two special friends, Hugh McAfee of Georgetown, Texas and Jim McPherson of Dallas, Texas.
