All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Tulocay Cemetery--Napa CA Napa Valley Register Wednesday, May 17, 2006 1:13 AM PDT Burrell Carmen Leach B. Carmen Leach passed away peacefully on the morning of May 15, 2006, at Napa Nursing Center. Carmen's years would have been 95 as she was born in 1911 on Aug. 26 in Walters, Okla. to Benjamin Calvin and Maudie Pearl Hall. She is loved and will be missed more than words can say. She was one of five siblings; three predeceased her, in addition to an infant daughter, Nancy. Her two daughters, Joyce LaRae Brace of Napa and her family and Pamela Gayle Fowell of Napa and her family survive Carmen. Her younger brother, Wade D. Hall of Silver Springs, Md. also survives her. Carmen found special joy in her grandchildren: Joyce's children, Joseph Carmen Perez and wife Vicki of Roseville, Richard Wayne Perez of Walnut Creek, Melanie Rae Glover and husband Mark Aman of Napa and Timothy Shawn Walker and wife Mary of Fremont; and Pamela's children, Jeffrey Scott Fowell of Davis and Kimberly Jane Fowell of Woodland. Carmen had the added joy of great-grandchildren: Christopher, Daniel and Mindy Perez; Alea LaRae and Jacob Aman; Jason Walker, 1st Class Petty Officer, USCG and wife Andrea of Puerto Rico; Chase, Chad and Chandler Walker; Pvt. Brian Fowell, U.S. Army in Iraq and Brittany Fowell and their mother, Maureen Poole, and Shane and Skylar Brose (Fowell). She had one great-grandson, Matthew Perez. Carmen was raised in Kansas City, Mo. and as a talented young artist, she worked for Hallmark cards in Kansas City. Carmen and her dear, late husband, Wayne L. Leach, met in 1928 and married in January of 1929 in Oklahoma. They moved their young family west to California in the early 1940s. Through the years, Carmen continued to express her artistic creativity and was a fine seamstress who enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gardening, cooking and building a full and happy life and successful businesses with her dear husband, Wayne. They were fortunate to travel extensively through the United States, Mexico, Canada and abroad. They were active in their children's activities, community organizations as well as Order of the Eastern Star and Masonry. As time came closer for retirement from the restaurant business in Berkeley, Carmen and Wayne bought a property in 1961 on Dealy Lane in Napa County for their "retirement." Alas, within a few years, that property, with the help of their children and families, became Little Knoll Golf Course, the first public golf course in Napa County. It was a popular course with young people, seniors and everyone. In 1977 they sold Little Knoll and again, "retired." Carmen and Wayne were very active and involved members of the First Christian Church of Napa. They were married almost 61 years when Wayne passed away in 1989 at the age of 81 years. Friends are invited to join the family for a service at Tulocay Cemetery on Thursday, May 18 at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow. Services are under the direction of Richard Pierce Funeral Service. No visitation is planned at the mortuary. Friends are invited to write a condolence to the family and sign the guest book for Carmen online at our Web site, www.rpfsc.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Cotton County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/cotton/cotton.htm
