Service will be at 11 p.m. Wednesday at the Baptist Retirement Center Chapel in Owasso with Dr. Roger Ferguson officiating. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Letitia Cemetery in Hulen with Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. Mrs. Mayes was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Winfield, Kan., to Charles L. and Daisy McDonald Smith. She married Robert W. Mayes on May 5, 1934, in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1998. Mrs. Mayes was reared and educated in Fayetteville, Ark., and graduated from Fayetteville High School. In 1936, she and her husband moved to Cotton County where they worked as farmers in the Hulen community for over 40 years. They retired to Duncan before moving to the Baptist Retirement Center in Owasso in 1993. She was a past member of the Hulen United Methodist Church and the Duncan United Methodist Church. After moving to Owasso, she became a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes including cooking, sewing and painting. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jary and Doris Mayes of Claremore; two sisters, Ruth Daniels, and her husband, Dennis, of Parsons, Kan., and Kay Driskel of Cherryvale, Kan.; three brothers, Tom Smith of Topeka, Kan., LaVern Smith of Lakewood, Calif., and Max Smith of Winston- Salem, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jeff Mayes of Billings, Kevin Mayes and his wife, Joy, Marci Carpenter and her husband, John, and Wade McKenzie, all of Tulsa, and Eric McKenzie and his wife, Pam, of Sand Springs; and three great-grandchildren, Alex and Ande Mayes and Isabel Carpenter.
