Minton WALTERS Funeral for Joe Bud "J.B." Minton, 82, Walters, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walters First United Methodist Church with Kip Wright officiating. Mr. Minton died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, in Walters. Burial will be at Walters Cemetery under direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters. He was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Comanche. He grew up in Comanche and Andrews, Texas, before coming to Walters as a freshman. He graduated from Walters High School in 1939 and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1943. He married Sarah Naomi Armstrong on May 30, 1943, in Walters. They immediately went to Maine where he shipped off with the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II as a gunnery officer on the destroyer the USS Remey. Upon his return from the war, he made his home in Walters where he owned and operated Armstrong's Variety Store and Minton's Men's Wear for many years. He was a member of the Methodist Church and served as Sunday school director for any years. Survivors include three sons: Ron Minton, Lawton; David Minton, Wichita, Kan.; and Stewart Minton, Walters; seven grandchildren: Rulissa Trout, Edmond; Rhonna Rickman, Rochester, Minn.; Haley Pringle, Yates Center, Kan.; Jay Cee Minton and Heather Taylor, both of Wichita; and Andra Spurlock and Elizabeth Burkham, both of Walters; 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
