Freeman, a lifetime resident of this area, died Tuesday evening at a local nursing home after an extended illness. He was 77 years old. Freeman was born Feb. 15, 1896, at Big Cabin, Indian Territory. He was a retired farmer-stockman and former employee of Eastern State Hospital. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion and the First Christion Church of Vinita. Survivors include one son, Valgene Freeman, 617 N. Gunter, three grandsons, Lynn Freeman, Tulsa and Ricky and Stephen Freeman, both of 617 N. Guneter, three brothers, Marshall and Tony Freeman, both of Vinita; and Nick Freeman, Big Cabin; two sisters, Mrs. Adrian Blount, White Oak and Mrs. Nair, Tulsa and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Burckhalter Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Lloyd Thompson of Nowata officiating.
