Heard Edmond P. "Jake" Heard, 62-year-old resident of Rt. 3, Vinita, died early today in a local hospital. Born July 31, 1917, at White Oak, Heard was a retired Eastern State Hospital employee and had formerly worked for the McNabb Coal Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Temple in Littleton, Colo. Survivors include three brothers, Bennie Heard, Robert Heard and Arthur Heard, all of White Oak; his foster mother, Mrs. Martha Griffith, White Oak, seven foster sisters and one foster brother. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Luginbuel Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Claude Strong, pastor of the Craig County Baptist Church, officiating.
