The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ==================================================================== Surnames: SWANGO Taken from the Miami News Record - June 30, 1941 Man Slain Near Welch; Wife's Father is Held James Swango, 33, Shot Dead While Feeding Chickens; Ed Fansler, 59, Held James Emmett Swango, 33, an employee of the Eastern Oklahoma hospital, was shot to death early Sunday, two miles southwest of here, and his father-in-law, Ed Fansler, 59, was held at Craig county jail today for investigation. Swango was killed, Sheriff Roger Waller said, while feeding chickens near a house in which he, his wife and Fansler had been living. Mrs. Swango, who was in the chicken house at the time, said she ran outside when she heard the report of a .22 caliber rifle. She shouted, "My God you've shot him." at her father, standing about 30 yards away. "Glad I Did," He Says Investigators quoted Fansler as saying: "Sure I did and I'm glad I did." The bullet entered the back of Swango's head, at the base of the brain. The victim died instantly. Besides his wife, Swango is survived by five brothers, John and Oliver Swango, both of Charleston, Ill., Tom and Steve Swango, both of Picher, and Bud Swango of near Welch.
