All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Big Cabin Cemetery--Big Cabin OK Vinita (Ok) Daily Journal, Feb 1, 1981 Sumner Dick Sumner, 95-year-old former Adair resident, died Saturday at Independence, Kans., Mercy Hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1886, in Missouri, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Sumner, and attended school in Missouri. He was a retired farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence, Kan. Sumner was married to Susan Jane Fitzsimmons on Feb. 21, 1910 in Bartlesville. They moved to rural Independence, Kan., from Adair in 1955. In 1973, the couple moved to 1012 W. Maple in Independence. He was preceded in death by his widow, Susan, on Sept. 21, 1974 and by two sons, one daughter, five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include three sons, Sherman, Lloyd and Lester, and one daughter, mildred Sumner, all of Independence, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Potts Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, Kan., with the Rev. Randall Terrill, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
