Sooter was born in 1908 in Leslie, Arkansas to Letha and Shem Sooter. He passed away April 24, 2008 at Conroe, Texas at the age of 99. At the age of 10, Matt moved with his parents to Vinita where he later graduated from High School. The family then moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma and he continued his education at Oklahoma A & M, graduating with a degree in Horticulture. His first job was in Pryor, Oklahoma, with the Soil Conservation Service. In Pryor, he met Vera Dessie Harris and they were married in Muskogee, Oklahoma on July 10, 1938. They were transferred to Clinton in 1939 until 1941 when they were transferred to Cheyenne. He remained there for 32 years before retiring in 1973. He then worked for the Upper Washita Conservation District for 10 years. Matt was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting quail and turkey. He enjoyed and appreciated the people and the county of Roger Mills County and Cheyenne. In 2003, he moved to Conroe to be near his son. He was a member of the Cheyenne United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife and 1 son. Survivors include his son Matt Sooter and wife, Jean of Conroe, Texas; 2 grandchildren Ben Sooter of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Letha Sooter, of Rockville, Maryland; and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services were held April 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with Greg Keith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
