R. Morris returned with interesting reports from the State Baptist Sunday School Convention at Enid. BAPTIST BUILDER LIGHTS A NEW CANDLE THIS WEEK – FIRST YEAR The second year of the publication begins with an 8 page newspaper instead of 4 pages. Article likens newspaper to a lit candle. THE WAY TO VICTORY From now to end of March is a campaign for victory. FUNERAL SERVICE OF MR. J. D. SHARP J. D. Sharp died Jan. 30 while visiting his sister Mrs. J. A. Parcher. Services were conducted at the First Baptist Church on Tuesday, Feb. 3. He was born April 15, 186. [That’s what it stated.] Surviving him were his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Creighton, of Commerce, Okla…and other unnamed relatives. VICTORY BANQUET OF BUILDERS Men of First Baptist Church will have a victory banquet on Feb. 16. Goal is to have every male church member in attendance for the program. David, assistant pastor of the Seminary Hill Baptist church in Fort Worth,Texas, was first missionary sent by Southern Baptists to Barcelona, Spain. His wife was Miss Manning of Santa Rita, NM. Rev. David’s parents and a sister were also missionaries in Africa. Mrs. David and her parents once lived in Mexico. BAPTIST FROM HUMBLE LIFE HEADS AMERICAN FEDERATION OF LABOR Wm. Green succeeded the late Samuel Gompers as leader of the AFL. He had been international secretary-treasurer of the United Mine Workers since 1913, a member of the Ohio state senate for two terms, author of the Ohio Workmen’s Compensation Law. He was also a Baptist, Odd Fellow, Elk, member of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, and a supporter of prohibition. He had a wife and six children. A brother is a mine worker. PAGE 6 THE OUTCAST A poem written by a 20 year old girl who on New Years Eve had been picked up by police while she was intoxicated and nearly frozen to death. Sharp whose funeral was Tuesday morning. Charles A. Proctor and other unnamed members attended Pleasant Hill school house service. MARRIED Mr. Harlin Brittain, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Brittain, married Miss Lola Arnold, a senior at Drumright high school, last Sunday afternoon at the bride’s home in the Shaffer camp north of the city. Pastor of the First Baptist Church performed the marriage; witnessed by members of the two families. The groom’s father is manager of the Magnolia pipe line department east of the city. She was 32 years old. She was born in Mackintosh county near Alfalfa, OK, in 1892. She had been ill for four months. The funeral was held 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church. Rev. R. W. Lackey performed the service. Interment was in North Drumright cemetery under the direction of C. B. Stubblefield. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hanna lived in Drumright three years. He was employed by Shaffer Oil Company as a rig builder. She was survived by her husband and seven children: Ollie 15, John 13, Inez 11, Anna 8, Jack 5, Jerrald 4, William Aaron 4 months. TRUEHITT WELCOME VISITOR Rev. Truehitt was visitor on Wednesday evening at the pastor’s study. He was minister at Oilton. THE MASTER BUILDER A Poem LEWIS DAVID SHARP FUNERAL Lewis David Sharp died at the home of his siter, Mrs. J. A. Parcher (at Standard Plant No. 2). Death was due to congestion of the lungs. He was 59 years old. He leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. Goldie Creighton of Commerce, OK. The Sharps had been living with their daughter. He also leaves one brother: James Sharp of Artesian, NM; and four sisters: Mrs. Grace Mahony, Argonia, Kan.; Bertha Peters, Nowata, OK; Mrs. J. A. Parcher of Drumright. Mrs. Mahoney and Mrs. Hamilton arrived for the funeral on Monday afternoon. The funeral was held 10 o’clock Tuesday at the Baptist Church. Rev. R. W. Lackey was in charge of services.
