All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Hillcrest Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA Jerry Childress 1920 - 2008 Jerry Childress, 88, went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2008. He loved the Lord and served as deacon, usher and teacher at Pentecostal Tabernacle and attended Victory Chapel in Bakersfield, CA. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 27, at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA. Pastor Kenny Noel will be officiating the service. Jerry was born on August 6, 1920 in Gypsy Corner, OK. He married the love of his life, Ruby Austin on June 18, 1938, in Bristow, OK. They were married for 70 years. Jerry worked for Chevron Oil Company for 37 years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their RV after he retired in 1982. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Maggie Childress and sister, Merle Chancellor. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Childress; brother, Albert Childress of Chickasha, OK; sister, Elva Cross of Wasco, CA; and sister, Josie Moss of Fontana, CA. Jerry is also survived by his sons, Eugene and wife, Phyllis Childress of Bakersfield, CA, Clyde Childress of North Fork, CA, Jimmie Childress of Fresno, CA, and David Chidlress of North Richland Hills, TX. He also has 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Jerry resided at the Life House on 34th for seven years, the family would like to thank the employees there for caring for him.
